Pinewood Derby

Gus is finally a Cub-Scout and with that comes the Pinewood Derby.  Now here I am thinking, fun, we get to decorate a car and watch some races. Ummm no.  These males take this derby seriously.  Ridiculously seriously if you ask me.  Chad and Gus mapped out a design, then they cut it out of the wood, lots of sanding, picking out the color of the car, and then the best part..........MELTING METAL on my kitchen stove and ruining a frying pan and stinking up the entire house for days.  All for the sake of 5 ounces of weight. Really?!?
I had fun helping paint the car and decorate it. Not as much fun as I had with Kensey when the Activity Days Girls did one, but  bonding none the less.
We were able to watch him get his Bobcat that night, I got my first pin (what do you do with these things?) and then we were off to the races!!
We were welcomed with racing banners!

Gus getting his car in place. His is the turquoise car (of course) I was teasing him that it said Aqua on the paint container and he made sure I knew Aqua is a girl color while turquiouse is somehow a boy color

Ok, we didn't win, place, or show, BUT we did get the Cubmasters Pick of best car. Yep, that was my decorating skills.  Ok, and a lttle of Gus

Aiden LOVED the entire idea of racing cars. We sat at the end and he would yell Mark, Set, GOOOOOO and clap after each race. He was very happy once he actually got to touch the beloved car!
It was a fun night, and I loved watching how intense all the dads and grandpa's got. Wow. I thought women could be vicious.  Apparently next year we need to bring our game on!!
